I was looking at youtube comments on the song "Bodysnatchers 4 Ever" by Leathermouth, and there was a youtube comment argument thing going on about whether Leathernouth is Post hardcore punk or screamo.... so don't get mad at me, because apparently i have alot to learn about sub-genres of rock/alternative music? | 'Hardcore' punk spawned from the original punk movement of the 70's. Black Flag are the most commonly cited example of hardcore punk. 'Post-hardcore punk' is the genre who drew their inspiration from the hardcore punks. Musically, you can tell the difference because hardcore punk is more fast, raw and noisy, whereas post-hardcore is more complex, with more melody to it normally. |

| What is Good Hardcore Punk Distortion Pedal? Does anyone know a good, relatively inexpensive distortion pedal that would be good for an old-school, hardcore punk band. We're like an old-school hardcore band with a hint of surf- and skate-rock. Think Circle Jerks, Dead Kennedys, Minor Threat, and such. I tried using a friend's DigiTech Death Metal Pedal, but it wasn't the sound I wanted and I tried just turning up the gain, but that didn't do it either. Thank you in advanced. |
| I love real punk rock and hardcore and I play rhythm guitar so the answer you are looking for is really simple. Don't use effects. The only thing between my guitar and amp is a cord and I wouldn't have it any other way. If you are trying to get that sound with single coil pickups, it's never going to happen. Look at the staple setup of almost every punk and hardcore band. Les Paul or an SG (Gibson or Epiphone, it doesn't matter) and a Marshall stack. That combination has been around since the 60's when bands like The Sonics were coming up with new ****. It's a tried and true combination that works. |

| That looks like a good pick for a beginner and the type of music you play. Learn lots of scales in as many places as you can (over 2 octaves as well) This will help you understand really what notes you're 'allowed' to use without sounding out of place. Know your fretboard back to front so if your guitarist wants you to accompany his riff you don't have to waste time searching for the notes. As for your picking hand I prefer to play fingerstyle over a pick, but that is all up to what sound you want. Some people think it's faster to play with a pick but I play fingerstyle using 3 fingers (alternating like 1-2-3-2-1) and I have yet to meet a pick bass player who plays faster :D Also get used to playing scales and knowing the notes in low tunings like DADG, CFCG or BF#BE Good luck :) |
